Modelling issues for numerical analysis of deep excavations

چکیده

The influence of different modelling assumptions on the results of numerical analyses of a deep excavation problem is discussed. Based on a reference solution a comprehensive parametric study is performed, identifying modelling assumptions which may have a significant influence on the calculated displacement behaviour and the bending moments in the wall. The parameters investigated include wall friction, domain chosen for the analysis, constitutive models and modelling of the grout body. In a second example the influence of the design approaches defined in Eurocode7 for ULS-design are investigated in connection with numerical methods. It can be concluded from this study that care must be taken when setting up a numerical model because the sum of various assumptions, not considered being of large importance when looked at it individually, may significantly influence the outcome of the numerical calculation.

Numerical Investigation on Effects of Deep Excavations’ Position on Existing Metro Tunnels in Urban Areas

Nowadays deep excavations are needed for construction of foundation of high rise buildings, providing space for parking and etc. In some cases deep excavations may be constructed in the vicinity of the subway tunnels and causes unpredicted extra displacements and internal forces in tunnel lining of tunnels which were not designed for them and consequently affect serviceability of tunnel. Theref...

Integration of seismic observations from deep level gold mines with dynamic numerical modelling

Seismic integration schemes aim to incorporate the rock mass response provided by the historical seismic activity to improve the ability of numerical models to reproduce future response to mining. Up to now, integration schemes considered the events using quasi-static models. This paper presents case studies that consider some of the seismic and modelling issues needed to extend these schemes t...

Evaluation of Seismic Vulnerability of Reinforced Concrete Buildings Adjacent to the Deep Excavations

In this study, the effect of deep excavation on the seismic response of RC moment resisting building systems has been studied. Deep excavation can cause significant changes in the stress and strain levels of soil environment and also changes in the propagation of seismic waves. This leads to permanent displacements in the foundation system. In this study, three RC building systems, i.e. 5, 10, ...

Numerical analysis of tunnels and deep excavations

This report covers 33 papers submitted to the session Numerical Analysis of Tunnels and Deep Excavations. The majority of papers (26) addresses aspects related to tunnelling, both NATM and bored tunnels. As compared to previous conferences analysis of interaction between tunnel construction and surrounding structures such as buildings and pile foundations seems to have become more important. On...

Numerical modelling of the underground roadways in coal mines– uncertainties caused by use of empirical-based downgrading methods and in situ stresses

Numerical modelling techniques are not new for mining industry and civil engineering projects anymore. These techniques have been widely used for rock engineering problems such as stability analysis and support design of roadways and tunnels, caving and subsidence prediction, and stability analysis of rock slopes. Despite the significant advancement in the computational mechanics and availabili...
